Additional Things to Know:
If you expect your event to generate a lot of noise and exceed the permitted noise levels, you may want to review the Special Event noise requirements as laid out in the Municipal Code, Title 18: Noise Abatement.

 

Special Events Managing Noise Summary:

In general, Special Events are granted variances to the maximum decibel levels laid out in the Noise Ordinance. However, there are several guidelines for this variance, depending on if your event is private or public.

 

Public Events:
  • Maximum decibel level at the perimeter of the event - 100 decibels
  • Amplified noise is restricted between 9:00am - 9:00pm
  • Neighbors within 250 feet of the site must be notified 7 days prior to the event
  • Loud speakers and instruments must be arranged to minimize disturbance to others
  • All reasonable measures must be taken to reduce noise impacts to neighbors
  • Event organizers must cooperate with the Police Department in addressing noise complaints

 

Private Events:

  • Maximum decibel level at the perimeter of the property - 80 decibels
  • Amplified noise is restricted between 9:00am - 8:00pm
  • Neighbors within 250 feet of the site must be notified 7 days prior to the event
  • Only 2 events / week are permitted on a property with noise variance
  • Loud speakers and instruments must be arranged to minimize disturbance to others
  • All reasonable measures must be taken to reduce noise impacts to neighbors
  • Event organizers must cooperate with the Police Department in addressing noise complaints
