Do You Need a Vacation Rental Permit?
If you rent your home on a short-term basis, you are required to obtain a Vacation Rental Permit, as well as collect and remit sales and lodging taxes to the City. A short term rental is defined as any period that is less than 30 days.

Business Licenses:

Any person who owns or represents one or more vacation rental properties is required to obtain an annual City of Aspen business license.

Other Things to Consider:

  • All vacation rentals are subject to the City of Aspen Land Use Code.
    • It is recommended that you contact the Planner of the Day to discuss your rental unit and the zone it is in.

  • A vacation rental permit should be obtained for each rental property
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to notify any relevant HOAs of their application
  • Applicants must verify the proposed rentals are in compliance with any regulations associated with their property.
  • It is recommended that deed restricted affordable housing units check in with the Housing  Office to confirm compliance with Housing Guidelines: 970‐920‐5050
