Community Development is responsible for issuing all variations of permits. In addition, the department handles Historic Property Review, Development, Long Range Planning, as well as, the review of all land use applications and zoning enforcement

    • NOTICE:  Brian Pawl is now the Chief Building Official for Pitkin County Building Department.  Tony Fusaro will be the Plans Examiner and will be working part-time.  See the press release here.

  • Pitkin County has updated its building codes with the adoption of the 2009 International Building Codes, which will become effective on January 26, 2011. The newly adopted codes include the 2009 International Building Code, Residential Code, Plumbing Code, Mechanical Code and Fuel Gas Code. 

    The following previously adopted codes remain in effect: The Efficient Building Code, 2009 Energy Conservation Code, the Lofgren Carbon Monoxide Ordinance, the Contractor Licensing Regulations and the 2008 National Electrical Code.

  • Notice: The Pitkin County Board of Health adopted regulations for OWTS Use Permits. These regulations become effective July 1, 2010. This regulation will be of specific interest to the real estate community, builders, architects, and property owners in Pitkin County.
