When to get a Permit
Per the currently adopted codes, any owner or authorized agent who intends to do any of the following to a structure must get a permit:
- construct
- enlarge
- alter
- repair
- move
- demolish
- change the occupancy
Any owner or authorized agent who intends to do any of the following to any electrical, mechanical or plumbing system must get a permit:
- erect
- install
- enlarge
- alter
- repair
- remove
- convert
- replace
note: Work which may be exempt from the currently adopted building codes may not be exempt from Aspen’s jurisdiction of local requirements and land use codes.

Submitting for permit
All building permits are to be submitted to the Building Department in the garden level at 517 E. Hopkins Ave.
General Building Permit Submittals
Submittals for building permits or change orders are by appointment only.
from the hours of 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on Tue., Wed., and Fri. (excluding recognized holidays).

Subpermits and Stand Alone Electrical, Mechancial and Plumbing Permit Submittals
Plumbing, electrical, mechanical, sign, fence, tent and fire sprinkler and alarm permits can be submitted to the Building Department without an appointment between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., M-F (excluding recognized holidays) at the front desk.
