Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan- Update (PDMP)
(Aspen, CO) Local Emergency Management officials are updating a plan designed to “reduce or
eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural and man made hazards.” It is called
the “Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan” and it’s updated by Pitkin County every five years. Among the
potential hazards that the plan addresses are wildfire, winter storms, avalanche, land and rock slides
as well as seasonal flash flooding. The update will assess natural and man made hazards that pose the
greatest risks to Pitkin County and its incorporated towns.
Workshops were held and the DRAFT Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan is available for public comment and review on Tuesday, September 6th. The plan can be viewed HERE or a copy can be picked up at the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office at 506 E. Main Street Ste 101. The public review period will run from September 6th through September 20th.

Pitkin County is required to have a pre-disaster mitigation plan pursuant to the requirements of the
Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and to achieve eligibility for FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation
Grant, Flood Mitigation Assistance, Repetitive Loss Claims and Severe Repetitive Loss programs.

The Public Safety Council
The Public Safety Council (PSC) was created to bring together all first response agencies (such as Law and Fire Departments) and other supporting agencies (such as American Red Cross and Community Health) every other month to discuss public safety issues in the Roaring Fork Valley. The PSC meets the first Wednesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. The meetings are held at rotating locations within the valley and run from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. Call (970) 920-5234 for locations and agendas.
