Radon

free radon mitigation D.I.Y. class on July 14, 2012 call Jannette 970.920.5069

Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Overall, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer.  Radon is responsible for about 20,000 lung cancer deaths every year.

Radon is a radioactive gas found in nature, and has no color, odor, or taste. It comes from the decay of uranium atoms. Buildings capture radon leaking up from the ground on which they are built. In Colorado, between 1/3 and 1/2 of the homes have radon levels in excess of the EPA recommended action level of 4 picocuries (pCi) of radon per liter of air.

Testing for Radon

The best way to purchase a do-it-yourself radon test kit is to use this coupon and order a short term charcoal test kit for $15.00 from the National Safety Council. Or, order discounted test kits here.

If your radon test results show that your home has radon levels above the EPA recommended action level of 4pCi/L, contact one of the radon mitigation professionals on the List of Certified Radon Mitigation Contractors in Colorado found on the State’s radon page.
