Local PM-10 Levels

Aspen's March PM-10 Levels

April’s PM-10 particulate air pollution levels were lower than those in March probably due to all the snowy conditions covering the gravel and dirt on roads which would otherwise be ground up and kicked into the air by traffic. For the most part, last month's levels followed the typical pattern of increasing through the work week (due to traffic) and dropping over the weekends (when traffic is much lower). PM-10 in Aspen is caused almost exclusively by traffic. PM-10 is thought to be responsible for tens of thousands of deaths a year in the US, including at levels sometimes experienced in Aspen.
