It is also illegal for anyone to leave a vehicle running for any amount of time while it is unattended according to state law.
The EPA says idling to warm-up your engine before driving can cause “excessive engine wear”. You need only 30 seconds of idling on cold mornings, followed by slow driving, to warm-up moving parts.

Clean Diesel
The City of Aspen is moving towards even cleaner emissions with diesel retrofits for the City Streets Department fleet, even though they already use the cleanest vehicles. The City obtained a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for diesel emissions retrofit technology. The City wanted to do its part in the protection of our local air through its work fleet, and also provide a demonstration of this proven technology to private and other public fleet owners. The city also uses many electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles to reduce air pollution emissions.
