Computer / Electronic

electronics to be recycledElectronic waste includes anything that has a plug or uses batteries (computers, printers, keyboards, monitors, televisions, stereos, microwaves, faxes, VCRs, cell phones, etc.). These items can contain large amounts of lead and other heavy metals, and should not be put in the landfill where they will leak and possibly contaminate the watershed.

Where to Recycle

Electronics should be recycled at the Pikin County Resource Recovery Center (landfill) for a small fee. Or, if you don't mind holding on to your items, the Environmental Health Department hosts an electronic recycling event in Aspen every year right around spring clean up time.

Donate a Computer

Help Computers for Kids provide free computers to kids who don't have them.

Residents of Aspen may bring personal computers to City Hall to donate them to the Computers for Kids Foundation. (If you are not a resident, or have more than just a personal computer to recycle, contact the Pitkin County Resource Recovery Center at 970-923-3487.)

NOTE: No business or foundation computers can be accepted by the City of Aspen. Business and foundations wishing to make a donation may call Computers for Kids at 970-963-7259.

Contribution Fee

(to cover recycling and transportation / handling costs - prices subject to change)

  • $12.00 per monitor
  • $10.00 per computer
  • $8.00 per printer/fax/copier
  • $5.00 per back up battery
  • There is no charge for key boards, mice, or cables.

The City of Aspen will send these funds to the Computers for Kids Foundation.

Steps To Donate

  1. Bring old computers to City Hall during working hours. (Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm)
  2. Go to the Finance Window on the first floor to fill out a (required) donation form.
  3. Make a contribution (required – see above for amounts). This contribution helps cover transportation and recycling costs.
  4. Drop off your computers at the Information Technology Department near the back door of City Hall.

Thanks! You'll keep the heavy metals in your computer out of the landfill, and help families who can't afford a computer.
