The City of Aspen offers two health insurance plans to eligible employees and their families. Premier Preferred Provider Organization
The preferred provider organization (PPO) plan gives employees the flexibility to choose their provider and offers in and out of network benefits. Under the PPO, employees pay a fixed amount (co-pay) out-of-pocket expenses for doctor visits and a portion of the cost for prescriptions. Preventive care is always covered at 100%.
High Deductible Health Plan
The high deductible health plan (HDHP) works similarly to the PPO plan, but has a higher deductible and no co-pays. The plan does not pay for medical services or prescriptions, except preventitive care, until the deductible is met. The benefit to this plan is the Health Savings Account (HSA). An HSA account is an interest-bearing account that allows partcipants to set aside pre-taxed money to be used for qualifying medical and prescription expenses.
For employees that enroll in the HDHP, the City will contribute $500 for single coverage and $1,000 for family coverage in their HSA bank account!
