Purchasing Organization: Many of Pitkin County's purchasing functions are decentralized with specific employees in the various departments being responsible for purchasing decisions. The Purchasing Office, a division of Public Works/Project Management, is responsible for assisting the various departments of the County as they purchase equipment, goods and services and for coordinating all formal bids.

The airport requires construction services including: parking lot repairs and improvements, airfield crackfill and sealcoating, terminal building systems repair (HVAC, roof, plumbing, electrical, etc.). The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) may fund major capital airfield improvements, master planning and other similar projects through FAA grant fund. FAA regulations normally require that the County bid all FAA-funded airport projects through a defined competitive process.

The department also manages 1,319 acres of public land throughout the County, including 218 acres of airport property, and 45 acres at the Solid Waste Center. The department also does revegetation and reclamation work to impacted County properties.
