Our Mission:

Pitkin County protects the environment through the education of our community, diversion of recoverable materials, and proper waste management.

 

The Resource Recovery Department is a leader in the Solid Waste industry.  Recycling, composting, aggregate, and other recovery programs enable Pitkin County to divert 60% of the waste away from the landfill.  The department is always looking for innovative ways to keep waste out of the landfill.

 We accept the following items at no charge:
 Newspaper, office pack, tin and aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic containers #1 through #7,
 phone books, magazines, most carpet pad, plastic grocery bags, and cardboard.

OTHER FEES 
Colorado Solid Waste User Fee (collected under C.R.S. §25-16-104.5 and 6 CCR 1007-2 §1.7.3): $1.00 per ton 
or $.30per cubic yard. Fee applies to all items that go into the permanent landfill.
Regional Waste Management Outreach (collected under Pitkin County Ordinance No. 98-44):$.33 per ton
or $.10 percubic yard (or count equivalent). Fee applies to most incoming items entering the Solid Waste Center.
