Treasurer

Pitkin County is a Home Rule county and the Pitkin County Treasurer is an appointed position and serves at the pleasure of the Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners.

 

The Treasurer is responsible for:

 

  • Collection of property taxes
  • Custodian of other funds collected by various county departments
  • Collects deposits from the United States Government, State of Colorado, County Clerk and Recorder, Sheriff's Office, Community Development, Roaring Fork Transit Authority, Pitkin County Library, Senior Services, Airport and various other departments. 
  • Distributes funds to the different taxing authorities which includes: school districts, Colorado Mountain College, cities and special districts within the county.

  • Tax Searches

 

The Treasurer's Office enforces collection of delinquent personal property taxes by distraint, seizure, and sale of such property and conducts an annual delinquent real estate property tax lien sale.

Dates to Remember

 

February 28
First half  taxes must be postmarked no later than the last day in February to avoid interest accrual,

 

June 15
Second half taxes must be postmarked (if paid in installments) no later than the 15th of June to avoid interest accrual.

 

April 1
Deadline for application for State of Colorado Senior Property Tax Deferral Program

 

April 30
Single payment or Full/Whole payment (not paid in installments) must be post marked no later than April 30th to avoid interest accrual.

 

July
Delinquent Notices are sent to assessed owner if taxes are not paid.

 

September 1
Delinquent Mobile Home and Personal Property advertised in The Aspen Times.

 

September 15 - Last day for payment of delinquent real estate taxes to avoid publication in the Aspen Times.

 

October 1
Distraint of Delinquent Mobile Home and Personal Property

 

November 8th, 2012 
Date of Annual Delinquent Tax Lien Sale which is generally held in the Pitkin County Courthouse, 506 East Main St, Aspen, Colorado commencing Promptly at 9:00 am.
