In 2005, the Aspen City Council created an Aspen Global Warming Alliance (AGWA) to guide the City of Aspen in implementing the "Canary Initiative" in addressing global climate change. The City Council believes that Aspen's economy and culture are dependent upon tourism and abundant and healthy natural resources. Furthermore, climate change could be the most critical threat to Aspen's way of life, economy, and the well being of its residents. The Alliance meets quarterly.
