Animal Care

Pick up after your pet. Pet waste is a large source of stormwater pollution. Pet waste left on grassy areas, sidewalks, and streets is flushed into our stormwater system when it rains or when the snow melts. The bacteria in pet waste are harmful to aquatic life as well as humans. It can make recreational users of the river and the riverbank very sick.

  • Pick up pet waste, bag it, and put it in the garbage.
  • Do not let your pet urinate on pavement (or snow that is sitting on pavement), in drainage swales, or in any waterways. Direct your pets to grassy areas for urinating.
  • Keep pets leashed while in natural areas (unless otherwise posted) to reduce the impact to wildlife, plants, and stream banks.
