Pool Dewatering

You must obtain approval to discharge water from swimming pools, spas, or decorative fountains from the City’s Stormwater Manager at 970-920-5080.  Water must be dechlorinated and free of any algaecides or dyes prior to discharge.

Maintenance discharges from swimming pools, fountains, and spas such as filter backwash, acid wash, and plaster wastes shall never be discharged to the public right-of-way or the stormwater system.

• Allow the pool water to sit without adding new chlorine for 5-7 days.
• Add a de-chlorinizing agent to the water. A common chemical used for this purpose is sodium thiosulphate.
• Using a pool test kit, check the residual chlorine level prior to discharging. Water can be discharged when residual chlorine measures zero.
