It Starts at Home

Aspen's energy efficiency starts in our homes. Energy efficiency improvements directly decrease energy consumption, lower utility bills, and put cash back in your pockets.

A few ways of increasing your home's energy efficiency include using compact florescent lights, unplugging rarely-used electronics, and increasing your home's insulation. However, the most effective way to increase your home's energy efficiency is to begin with an energy assessment.

The City of Aspen is partnered with the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Colorado Mountain College to train certified auditors through the professional building performance analysts program.

A professional energy assessment uncovers areas for improvement for your home and energy systems. Incentives for installing renewable energy on your property and rebates for energy efficient appliances are also available.

Conservation Starts at Home:

A National Geographic Article

"Will it make any difference? That's what we really wanted to know. Our low carbon diet had shown us that, with little or no hardship and no major cash outlays, we could cut day-to-day emissions of CO2 in half—mainly by wasting less energy at home and on the highway.

Putting the brakes on global emissions will be more difficult than curbing CO2 in the United States, because the economies of developing nations are growing faster. But it begins the same way: By focusing on better insulation in houses, more efficient lights in offices, better gas mileage in cars, and smarter processes in industry." - A excerpt from It Starts at Home by Peter Miller.
