City Council Land Use Presentation

planned Castle Creek Energy Center under the Castle Creek Bridge

Open Space Land Swap

During the November 2007 election, 77% of voters gave authorization rezoning open space for the proposed Castle Creek Energy Center.

27,000 square feet of heavily degraded open space (located under the Castle Creek bridge on the inside curve of Power Plant Road) was traded for 4 times the amount of wooded land on Aspen Mountain (located near the Ajax Trail).

Land Use Agreement

Watch video of the 12/12/2011 Aspen City Council Regular Meeting at which land use approval for the Castle Creek Energy Center was granted. Following a citizen petition, this land use approval ordinance was rescinded on March 12, 2012. City Council is formulating a ballot question to present to the voters.
