Aspen Mayor Mick Ireland is at Aspen Valley Hospital, following a weekend
bicycle crash on Independence Pass.
Mick was injured when his bike lock got stuck in his front wheel. He was driven to the hospital by some good Samaritans on Saturday evening.
Mick suffered a punctured lung, mild concussion, road rash, several broken bones, as well as an injured spine. He was wearing a helmet, as he always does on his bike.
He will miss tonight's council meeting, although ironically, the Aspen Valley Hospital expansion plan is on the agenda. Mick expects to be back in action in two weeks.
