At 2:50p.m. a suspicious package arrived at
the Pitkin County Courthouse. Officers from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s
Department and the Aspen Police Department responded immediately to the scene.
Emergency personal have secured the package, set up a perimeter surrounding the
building, and are awaiting the arrival of the Grand Junction Bomb Squad.
At this time the package is contained and
does not pose an immediate threat to the surrounding areas.
Until the bomb squad is able to assess the
package, residents are encouraged to stay out of the immediate vicinity of
courthouse and jail. In order for emergency response to deal with this
situation effectively, the cooperation of the public is appreciated.
The Grand Junction Bomb Squad is expected to
arrive around 6:00p.m. additional details and a press release will be available
following their investigation of the package.
