Unattended Death in Downtown Aspen

ASPEN, CO - 10/21/2009 – At 11:29 AM on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 the Aspen Pitkin County Communications Center received a 911 medical call regarding an unconscious, not breathing subject found in a hot tub. The Aspen Police, Aspen Ambulance, Aspen Fire EMS, and Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office responded to 301 East Hyman Ave.  Responding personnel, after attempts with CPR and automatic external defibrillation (AED), determined the 20 year old male was deceased. Detective Chris Womack of the Aspen Police is investigating and a Pitkin County Coroner's report is pending. No further information is available at this time.

The name of victim is being withheld, pending the notification of next-of-kin. Releasing additional details of a medical response is contrary to public interest, as it may serve to deter citizens from calling for assistance from emergency personnel out of fear of public scrutiny.
