Aspen Climate Action Party Planned for 10-10-10
Aspen has planned a variety of events for citizens to actively participate in during the Aspen Climate Action Party on Oct. 10, 2010.

“All over the planet, people will gather in their communities on 10-10-10 to celebrate climate solutions and send our national political leaders a clear message: ‘We’re getting to work – what about you?’” said Lauren McDonell, interim director for the City of Aspen’s Canary Initiative. “Over similar 5,100 events in 174 countries have been registered so far with 350.org, and Aspen is gearing up for a fabulous day of activities.”

On Sunday, October 10, meet in Gondola Plaza in Aspen at 1 p.m. to choose your project from among these carbon emission-reducing events: tree planting, forest restoration, DIY solar ovens, build a garden at City Hall, energy efficiency canvassing and political action.

At 4:30 p.m., join the Aspen Skiing Company for a reception and presentation of the film “Carbon Nation” at the Limelight Lodge. Film & beer are free for volunteers, $5 for those who did not participate in the day’s volunteer activities.

The Aspen Climate Action Party is sponsored by the City of Aspen’s Canary Initiative and Environmental Health Department, the Community Office for Resource Efficiency, Aspen Film, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and the Aspen Skiing Company.

And on Friday, October 8, at 2:15 p.m., the community is invited to gather at the Aspen Public School District Campus to create a living work of art to demonstrate Aspen’s commitment to take action to reduce our carbon footprints. This public photograph is being coordinated by Rae Lampe at the Aspen Middle School. Email  rlampe@aspenk12.net for details on how to be involved in this event. The artwork will be presented at the Limelight Lodge reception on Oct. 10.
