(Aspen, CO) The anticipated December 24th and 31st closures of all Pitkin County offices, including the Treasurer’s office, for the Christmas and New Years holidays could come as a surprise for those wishing to pay 2010 property taxes before the end of the year.
“Since all government offices, most banks and the post office will be closed Friday, December 24th and Friday, December 31st, we want to make sure people who plan to pre-pay their taxes pay them before that day,” Wancura said.
Property tax mill levies will be set by December 20th. The Treasurer normally doesn’t send out 2010 Property Tax bills until mid-January.
“If property owners choose to pay their taxes before the mill levies are set, they can base their 2010 taxes off of their 2009 property tax rates or just send in what they can,” Wancura said. “We can make adjustments and give refunds after the fact if necessary.”
After mill levies are set the public can determine what their property tax bills will be using a recently improved internet search on the Treasurer’s office website: www.aspenpitkin.com/taxes. The improved website now offers more accurate and current information about individual property taxes.
Another new feature on the Treasurer’s office website is a foreclosure search: www.aspenpitkin.com/foreclosure. This website tool will be updated in the coming months to provide up-to-date information on local foreclosures that can be searched by name or address.

Because Christmas and New Year's days both fall on Saturdays this season, all Pitkin County government offices will be closed on Friday, December 24th and Friday, December 31st.
