New Waste Allowance Makes it Even Easier to Take Waste to the Landfill

(Aspen, CO) All Pitkin County households may now receive a $100.00 credit at the Pitkin County Resource Recovery Center - also known as the landfill - for all incoming material including hazardous materials, electronics, metal, leaves and grass as well as household trash.  This new program, which replaces previous programs and credits at the landfill, is designed to give incentives to residents to properly dispose of waste.

“This program has evolved over the years from Free Dump Day to a punch pass to this waste allowance system that will be easier for our customers,” said Compliance and Outreach Coordinator for Resource Recovery, Rich Ludwig. “The goal is to encourage residents to properly dispose of waste. We don’t want to see things like lead and cadmium and other metals in computers and other electronics leach into our soils and streams,” Ludwig said.

You must be a Pitkin County resident to qualify for the waste allowance program. Residents must bring a driver’s license to the landfill along with one of the following documents: car registration, utility bill or property tax bill.  The Waste Allowance form can be downloaded at www.aspenpitkin.com/ResourceRecovery or filled out at the Resource Recovery office at the Landfill. Call Ludwig with questions about the program at 970-429-2884.
