Pitkin County, Colorado – January 11, 2011 – At approximately 2:05 p.m. the Aspen/Pitkin County Communications Center was notified of a two car accident involving injuries in the area of Bishop Lane and Colorado State Highway 82. Members of Basalt Fire and Ambulance, Basalt Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Transportation and the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched.
Shortly after the arrival of Basalt Fire and Ambulance, it was determined that the driver of one of the vehicles suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a local area hospital by Basalt Ambulance.
As is normal with accidents involving deaths or injuries on Colorado State highways, the Colorado State Patrol is the lead agency. Any information regarding the accident should be directed to the Colorado State Patrol.
The name of deceased party is being withheld pending notification of family members.
