Aspen/Pitkin County Airport Director Finalist for New Director Post

(Aspen, CO) - Long-timeAspen/Pitkin County Airport Director of Aviation Jim Elwood has been selected as one of three finalists for a key Airport Director position in the Pacific Northwest.  Elwood informed the County that he is being considered for the job of Airport Director in Spokane, Washington. Elwood has been Director of Aviation in Pitkin County since November 2001.

“I have truly enjoyed the challenges and initiatives that I’ve been a part of in Aspen, and the opportunity in Spokane would provide me an opportunity to further develop the professional skills and abilities I’ve gained while at the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport,” Elwood said.

Elwood says highlights of his tenure in Pitkin County include: the adoption in 2004 of the first Airport Master plan in 20 years, and resolving runway extension issues here. Other highlights include serving as Chair of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) during which he testified about small airport issues before a congress in Washington, D.C.

Elwood is a career airport professional having worked as an executive in airports for the past 22 years. Prior to coming to Aspen he was Director of the Eagle County Regional Airport in Eagle, Colorado.   Elwood is also one of 500 professionally accredited airport executives in the country. He also has a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management with a minor in business.

“Based on what I know about Jim’s performance as Airport Director over the last several years, the County will be sorry to see him go if he’s selected for the new position,” said County Manager, Jon Peacock. “I understand his decision to consider the next step in his career,” Peacock said.

Elwood heads to Spokane in early February for interviews.

“In the meantime I will continue my work and passion for our airport,” Elwood said. “These are exciting times here and I am honored to be a part of the team.”
