Aspen/Pitkin County Airport Director to Stay

(Aspen, CO) Airport Director Jim Elwood will remain in his position at the helm of the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. Elwood recently announced he was one of three finalists for an Airport Director’s position in Spokane, Washington where he travelled for interviews.

“I was interested in the career opportunity in Spokane and I am grateful for the consideration extended by the Spokane Airport Board in their search for a new airport director.  However, I am no longer a candidate for the position.  The position in Spokane was a unique one for a variety of reasons; but my heart continues to be here in this valley.  This is an exciting time to be in the Aspen/Snowmass area.  I and look forward to seeing the airport master plan and the terminal area plan through to completion, ” Elwood said.

Elwood has been Director of Aviation in Pitkin County since November 2001.

“I am very happy to hear that our longtime Airport Director is staying with us,” said County Manager Jon Peacock. “He has done a great job for the community and is a key member of our team.  His shoes would have been difficult to fill.”
