Economic Development Survey Underway

Pitkin County Joins Governor’s Statewide Bottom-Up Economic Development Plan Initiative

(Aspen, CO) Pitkin County Commissioners are encouraging all people who live and work in Pitkin County to get involved in Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper’s “Bottom-Up Economic Development Plan Initiative” to rebuild Colorado’s economy and create jobs. The Governor is reaching out to Coloradoans in a statewide conversation about economic development through an online survey and regional meetings between now and April 15th.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to get its ideas and concerns about economic development in front of the new administration,” said County Manager Jon Peacock. “We think it is important for Pitkin County to be part of the conversation so that any statewide efforts incorporate our community’s ideas and unique values,” Peacock said.

The process starts with an online survey that the BOCC hopes all people who are part or the community will take the time to complete. A link to the survey can be found on Pitkin County’s homepage: www.aspenpitkin.com under “County Spotlight.” It is important to note that the survey offers the opportunity for respondents to “write in” their personal ideas and observations in addition to responding to the standardized list of questions.  The results from the survey will be compiled by-county and will be provided to each county.   In support of the bottom-up approach, each county will determine its use and the relevance of the survey information, including looking at regional opportunities.

Hickenlooper launched the bottom-up initiative to identify economic priorities for each county in the state, to reach the widest range of interests and assure the greatest amount of input possible. The Governor’s office is working to assure that the Stateside Economic Development Strategy is truly representative of all 64 Colorado counties to develop a real and sustainable partnership between counties and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. Survey results will be used to develop Colorado’s statewide economic development strategy; a framework that the Governor’s office says it hopes will show how well counties work together, find new solutions, address challenges and rebuild the state’s economy.
