Use It Don't Lose It is Senior Wellness Expo Theme

Lectures, Demonstrations, Food and Entertainment for Seniors

(Aspen, CO) Local and visiting senior citizens in Aspen will be treated to a day of information about how to “navigate the senior wellness realm” using the many resources for seniors the community has to offer. The “Senior Wellness Expo 2011: Use It, Don’t Lose It” on Thursday, June 23rd from 11am to 2pm will cover topics ranging from Keeping your brain healthy and healthy food tips to the latest in magnetic field therapy, Elderlaw and belly dancing, among many other topics and expositions. Co-sponsored by the University of Colorado School Of Medicine, the expo is one of the single biggest events of the year held at the Pitkin County Senior Center.

“The event is a great ‘one stop shop’ for seniors to learn about  things they can do to maintain their brain power into old age, how to manage pain, meditate, eat healthy, secure their homes and even learn to belly dance,” said Pitkin County Senior Center Program Director, Mary Barbour. “And we’ll have a lot of fun while we’re doing it,” Barbour said.

Keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Bruce Paton retired Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Colorado Medical School. Paton’s topic is “Can you keep your brain healthy?” covering the usefulness of exercising the brain, diet and brain foods, genetics and heredity.

The expo will include booths on Music Therapy for Pain Management, Making Your Home Secure, Belly Dance for Beginners, Colorado 2-1-1, Aspen Hopeline, Healthy Food Tips, Elderlaw, Magnetic Field Therapy, Medicare information and more.

“This is an event no senior in our community should miss,” said Barbour.

Reservations are necessary for lunch. Call 920-5432.
