Teenager Dies While Playing Basketball InAspen

A16-year-old male has been pronounced dead at Aspen Valley Hospital. The deceased male reportedly passed out while playing basketball at the Aspen HighSchool shortly before 3:00 p.m.


Pitkin County, Colorado – July 18, 2011 – At approximately 2:55 p.m. today, the Aspen/Pitkin County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that someone had collapsed. The caller stated a16-year-old boy was “semi-conscious” in the upstairs gym at the Aspen High School. Rescue personnel learned while en route that CPR had been started by bystanders on scene. Paramedics from Aspen Ambulance, officers from the Aspen Police Department and deputies from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office responded.

 

Paramedics transported the individual to Aspen Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:12 p.m. Notification has been made to the family of the deceased and with their approval, the Pitkin County Coroners Office has released the identity of the 16-year-old male as Quinn Issiah Everring of Toronto, Canada. Everring had just arrived to Aspen this morning to participate in a basketball camp.


The official cause of death will be released by the Pitkin County Coroners Office pending the completion of the investigation and a post-mortem examination. 

 

This will be the final press release issued by the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.
