Body Recovery from Pyramid Peak Area Postponed Until 09-11-11

Pyramid Peak Recovery

Pitkin County,Colorado, September 10, 2011 - On Saturday September 10, 2011 atapproximately 1630 hours Aspen/Pitkin Communications Center was notified of a deceased climber located near Pyramid Peak in the Thunder Pyramid area, located in Pitkin County, Colorado. Thunder Pyramid is approximately one mile due south of Pyramid Peak. The hiker, a 41 year old male from Dillon, Colorado was climbing at least two of the peaks in the area when he fell over the east side of the ridge.

A hiking companion was able to climb out and call for help from the Maroon Bells substation.  The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and Mountain Rescue Aspen responded.  At approximately 1810 hours a team from Mountain Rescue Aspen boarded a fixed wing aircraft and completed a fly over of the area to locate the body and formulate a recovery plan. Due to the lack of available daylight and adverse weather conditions the recovery is temporarily postponed until Sunday September 11, 2011. The incident is open and active.

Please release issued by Deputy Jason Kasper.
