Many Seasonal Flu Shot Clinics Cancelled

(Aspen, CO) Seasonal flu vaccine is running low locally. We’re told shipments will be delayed until November for SEASONAL vaccine. Shipments of H1N1 are still trickling in and will be given to “at risk” groups first. As soon as those groups have gotten the H1N1 vaccine, it will be made available to the general public.

A record number of flu shots were given at the first community flu shot clinic at Health and Human Services October 7th. So many shots (821) were given that they ran out of seasonal flu vaccine. As a result, the following flu vaccine clinics have been cancelled:

·         Oct. 14th – Snowmass Village Town Hall – CANCELLED

·         Oct. 20th -  Hotel Jerome – CANCELLED

·         Oct. 21st- Aspen Middle School – CANCELLED

There are some clinics that have not yet been cancelled:

·         Oct. 17th – 8:30 – 11:00 am Mid Valley Health Fair in El Jebel – STILL ON

·         Nov. 6th – 8:30 – 10:30 am Senior Health Fair at AVH (over 60 only) – STILL ON

You may also still find seasonal flu shots available at City Market, Walmart and Safeway pharmacies but supplies are limited. Some doctor’s offices also have limited supplies of seasonal vaccine still available. It is recommend you call them first.

More seasonal flu vaccine is not available until November at which time more clinics will be announced.

Meanwhile, H1N1 vaccine is arriving in the coming weeks in very limited quantities and will be given to the following groups first:

  • pregnant women,
  • people who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months (e.g., parents, siblings, and day care providers),
  • health care and emergency medical services personnel,
  • people 6 months through 24 years of age, and,
  • people 25 years through 64 years of age who have certain medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications.

After H1N1 shots have been given to the above groups, there will be vaccine available for the general population.

H1N1 shot clinics will be announced as they are scheduled.
