Pitkin County Hosts Public Educational Meeting on Midvalley Wildlife Resources

(Aspen, CO)  Pitkin County will host an informational meeting during which the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission (CPW) will present information on wildlife and wildlife habitat on BLM parcels in the mid valley. Specifically, information will be provided on the Crown, Light Hill and the Arbaney Kittle/Mesa parcels.

Pitkin County submitted comments regarding the draft BLM Resource Management Plan in mid-January after holding several public meetings to get feedback from those who were able to attend.

“We heard from mid-valley citizens that there is concern over our comments resulting in the loss of some new trail development potential, and some trail access during winter months on the Crown, Light Hill and Williams Hill parcels,” said Director of Pitkin County Community Development, Cindy Houben. “We’d like the public to better understand why we made these recommendations,” Houben said.

This meeting will provide an opportunity to present background data on wildlife and their use of the area, and to provide detail regarding our recommendation to the BLM for development of management plans for each of these parcels based on “carrying capacity”.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 15th at Basalt Town Hall from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. Call or email Cindy Houben at 920-5097, cindyh@co.pitkin.co.us).
