Aspen, Colorado – May 7, 2012– Kids First and Raising a Reader in collaboration with The Aspen Writers’ Foundation are bringing “Read With Me Day” to 36 early childhood classrooms from Aspen to Carbondale this week.

On May 10th and 11th 40 community volunteers will be reading to children ranging from infants to age 5 in the communities of Aspen, Snowmass Village, Basalt and Carbondale. These volunteers will model the love of reading and represent a diversity of professionals including police officers, firefighters, doctors, council members, chefs, a cowboy, and newspaper editor, to mention a few.

Stories read to children by community members present an opportunity to emphasize the crucial role adults play in giving children the foundation needed to succeed in school and beyond.  Local collaborative events which build support for programs such as these are vital to young children’s learning.
