Aspen, Colorado – June 27, 2012–The City of Aspen is one of a select number of governments across the nation to win the prestigious Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Budget Presentation Award for its 2012 budget.
In order to win the award the City had to meet 27 criteria that fall into four categories the budget must speak to, which include: policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool.
This award reflects the City’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. John Fishbein, Senior Manager at GFOA said, “It takes a lot of effort for a government to put the parameters in place to meet the criteria for this award.”
There are over 1,350 participants in the Budget Awards program.
“We are excited to receive this award from GFOA as it shows that our budget document meets the highest standards as it relates to presentation of budgetary information,” said City Finance Director Don Taylor. “Finance staff worked hard to make sure that the budget document serves as an effective policy document and financial plan for the City of Aspen. This award acknowledges that effort.” This is the eighth time the City of Aspen has won this award.
Award recipients like Aspen are pioneering efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and providing an excellent example for other governments throughout the country.
