Crystal Trail Construction Lane Closures

CRYSTAL TRAIL CONSTRUCTION LANE CLOSURES

(Aspen, CO) Guard rail installation along the Crystal Trail now under construction along Highway 133 near Carbondale will require periodic lane closures the week of November 9th.

Construction of the first leg of the Crystal Bike Trail south of Carbondale is well underway and expected to continue into late-November. The 5.3 mile trail is being constructed on the east side Highway 133, along the Crystal River from the vicinity of the Carbondale Fire Station to the BRB Campground.

The bike path up the Crystal River Valley is a dream-come-true for trail advocates.  The scenic corridor has a reputation among cyclists for being dangerous because of the lack of shoulders and high speed traffic.

The asphalt trail will be 8 feet wide with an additional 4 feet of soft surface in most places where there’s room.

Pitkin County Open Space and Trails is funding the lion’s share of the $3 million project with help from a $1 million Great Outdoors Colorado Grant. The Town of Carbondale has contributed nearly $400,000 to the project. Garfield County kicked in another $200,000. A $50,000 contribution from the Jelenick family will also go toward the Garfield County portion of the trail.
