Unattended Death at the Library Park
ASPEN, CO - 11/17/2009 4:10 PM – At approximately 10:30AM on Monday, November 16, 2009 a citizen came to the front office of the Aspen Police Department to report a deceased female subject in the snow at the Library Park, near the Galena Street Circle. The Aspen Police responded to the scene and observed signs that were incompatible with life. Additional Aspen police officers, Pitkin County Sheriff’s deputies, and the Pitkin County Coroner responded to the scene. Detectives Chris Womack and Ian MacAyeal of the Aspen Police are investigating and a Pitkin County Coroner's report is pending. No further information is available at this time.
The name of victim is being withheld, pending the notification of next-of-kin. Releasing additional details of a medical response is contrary to public interest, as it may serve to deter citizens from calling for assistance from emergency personnel out of fear of public scrutiny.
