Update on Death at the Library Park

ASPEN, CO - 11/18/2009 2:30 PM – At approximately 10:30AM on Monday, November 16, 2009 a citizen came to the front office of the Aspen Police Department to report a deceased woman in the snow at the park next to the Pitkin County Library. The Aspen Police responded to the scene and observed signs that were incompatible with life.

According to the Pitkin County Coroner’s office the victim, 54 year old Cheryl Lurie, died of blunt force head trauma, the manner of which is undetermined. Aspen Police Department officers, along with the assistance from several agencies, are continuing to investigate all possible leads in this case. Cheryl Lurie, who was 5 foot 2 inches tall, was last seen wearing a short black down jacket with colorful embroidery, black fleece hat, black boots, and carrying a red leather purse. If anyone saw Cheryl Lurie on Sunday evening, November 15th, 2009 in the downtown core area of Aspen or has any information regarding the death of Cheryl Lurie, please contact the Aspen Police Department at (970) 920-5400.

Ms. Lurie was an Aspen resident and long time local. Aspen Police Chief Richard Pryor said, “while it is a rare occurrence to have an incident like this happen in our community, we wish to express our condolences to Cheryl’s family and friends."

For media questions, please contact the Aspen Police Department at (970) 920-5400.
