Chance to save hours traveling to major airport TSA enrollment centers
The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is offering more local opportunities for travelers to sign up for the Transportation Security Administration’s Pre Check program. On weekdays between July 21 and August 1st and again in September. applicants with proper documentation can make appointments at the airport for the required background check. Normally applicants would have to drive as far away as Denver to complete an in-person background check.
“We’ve had such a tremendous response to this program we’ve decided to offer these additional, locally-based, sign up opportunities,” said Airport Director, Jim Elwood. “The more people that sign up for TSA Pre Check, the more convenient air travel will be in our airport and at other participating airports. It really makes a positive difference getting through security,” Elwood said.
To begin the TSA Pre Check enrollment process applicants are directed to make an in-person appointment and begin the application process online at www.aspenairport.com. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs). A complete list of “disqualifying offenses” can be found on the TSA website: www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck/eligibility-requirements.
Once qualified, TSA Pre Check travelers will not have to remove their shoes, belts or lightweight jackets or have to remove their laptops or small quantities of liquids, gels, and aerosols from carry-on luggage during expedited security screening in a separate, and likely shorter, security line at participating airports.
During our first two local sign up events last March, the TSA processed more than 1,000 people for the Pre Check program. More information is available by calling 920-5384.
