Aspen,CO –August 14, 2014- The City of Aspen and Pitkin Countywould like to remind residents to rinse out their recycling before placing itinto outdoor recycling bins. Bears havebeen overturning recycling bins, including the smaller ones at the Rio GrandeRecycling Center. Bears may not find food inside of a recycling container, butthe smell of dirty containers can lead them to search. Rinsing out containers to be recycled notonly reduces the chance bears will be rummaging through your recycling bins, but it also reduces damage to the equipment used to sort recyclables at aMaterials Recovery Facility. Remember tosecure your food waste in a bear proof container and remove all food residuefrom items placed in unsecured bins.
