APCHA Housing Director TomMcCabe to Retire

Aspen,Colorado – August 21, 2014–After nine years of service, Aspen Pitkin County Housing Director Tom McCabe isretiring from the City effective in mid-October. McCabe has contributed significantly to thehousing program and oversaw growth, increased enforcement and legal victoriesduring his tenure.
“It has been a rewarding and fulfilling challenge,”McCabe said. “I am proud of the workI’ve done, which has included several important legal victories, increasedenforcement, upgrading City owned properties and offering diverse educationalofferings for prospective and current renters and owners. I like Rosalynn Carter’s quote, ‘There isnothing more important than a good, safe, secure home.’ It is a foundational need.”
The City of Aspen has been fortunate to benefitfrom McCabe’s years of service. Some ofhis greatest accomplishments include: consistent and reliable enforcement,victory in the Meyerstein lawsuit, leading the charge and writing HB1017 whichbecame law and a crucial factor in the success of affordable housing,significant upgrades at Truscott which include landscaping and safety, and assistingHOA’s in understanding their rights and obligations and how to better preparefor their financial future.
“The city will conduct a national recruitment forTom’s replacement and the position should be very attractive to those in theaffordable housing business. A high bar has been set and we expect the newdirector to meet those high standards. I anticipate the initial interview panelto consist of an APCHA Board member and a Pitkin County representative inaddition to city staff.”
The recruitment process will start immediately.
