Food Tax Refund for Aspen Residents

Aspen residents who lived within the city limits for the entire year of 2009 are eligible for a $50 Food Tax Refund. The City of Aspen created Food Sales Tax Refunds as an incentive to encourage voters to support a sales tax referendum. It was intended to reimburse voters for the approximate amount of sales tax that they would pay annually on grocery purchases due to the imposition of a 1 percent city sales tax.

Applications are available at the Finance Department window, on first floor of City Hall at 130 S. Galena Street, on the Web at www.aspenpitkin.com/Departments/Finance-City-of-Aspen/Food-Sales-Tax-Refunds/, or by calling Finance at 970-920-5040.  The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m.

If you were a registered voter prior to January 1, 2009, and your address has not changed, no further supporting documentation is required; however, you are still required to complete the application and submit it to Finance prior to the deadline.

If you have never received a refund or your address has changed, you must provide proof you lived within the Aspen city limits for the entire year of 2009.  Accepted documentation includes: a signed lease, utility bills, or cancelled checks from January, 2009, and December, 2009, with your physical address.
