2006 Childcare Assessment
June, 2006: In order to make informed decisions on how to best use its resources, Pitkin County
Health and Human Services contracted with Healthy Mountain Communities to analyze the current
childcare situation in the county, and to project the need for childcare in the future. The City
of Aspen's Kids First Childcare Resource was a part of the team working to create this childcare
needs analysis.
The results of the study show that future population growth in Pitkin County is unlikely to come
from births to county residents. Most of the county's population is aging and childcare
providers could be providing services for more children of commuters in the future.
