"The James H. Smith North Star Open Space was purchased in partnership with the City of Aspen in 2001. This parcel lies between the North Star Nature Preserve and a preserved open space parcel owned by the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. Together, these parcels comprise over 325 acres of wildlife habitat just a few miles east of downtown Aspen."

"Open Space and Trails recently completed a trail along the historic Denver and Rio Grande railroad corridor. The 'Rio Grande' Trail connects Aspen with Basalt and Emma. OST's trail network provides non-motorized recreationists and commuters with over 30 miles of paved and non-paved trails in Pitkin County."

"The Hot Springs Ranch and Filoha Meadows are located adjacent to the Penny Hot Springs just a few miles north of Redstone, along a designated Scenic Byway. Bighorn sheep are frequently seen on this property in the wintertime."
