In order for our office to accommodate civil service for you in Pitkin County, we will need the following: detailed information on who you would like served and adequate address information (Not a P.O. Box), three copies of your service and pre-payment (see fees chart) cost of service, $.36 per mile, and a $7.50 per unsuccessful attempt. We request that you provide the requested number of copies for service. Should we need to xerox for you, a charge of $.50 per page will be levied.



The jail provides fingerprinting during the following hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. You should always call first at 970-920-5331 to confirm with a jailer that they will be able to accommodate your needs.



The visiting hours at the Pitkin County Jail are: Monday - Friday, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (Picture identification will be required in order to visit any inmate).



It is best to sign up for Useful Public Service on Tuesday between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. A deputy will be stationed on the third floor of the courthouse at 506 E. Main Street, in the hallway to the East side of the building during those hours.



For lost and found, please check with our administration office at 970-920-5300 Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We maintain lost and found for the County. The Aspen City Police maintains lost and found for the City of Aspen.



Independence Pass, which is located on Colorado State Highway 82 approximately 20 miles east of Aspen, is closed to through traffic from approximately late October though mid to late May each year. The state highway department maintains and clears this pass for summer utilization and announces both the opening and closure dates.



The Aspen/Pitkin County Records Department is the central repository for maintaining and releasing copies of all police records. It is located in the front of the jail and maintains office hours from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Telephone number: 970-920-5320.



Employment. Thank you for your interest in the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office. Please be aware that it is very rare that we hire applicants who are not currently residing within the Roaring Fork Valley regardless of their professional background, training or abilities. The vested interest that a local already has in his or her community is invaluable to our department as a hiring qualification. Applicants are welcome any weekday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We prefer applicants who have a baccalaureate degree or equivalent, but a discussion with the administrative staff may be possible to assess your qualifications. Concealed Handgun Permits
The applicant must:
  • Reside in Pitkin County
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be at least 21 years of age (or 18 years of age for a Temporary Emergency Permit)
