If you have been sentenced by a Judge to work release at the Pitkin County Jail,you must first contact Jail Supervisor Billy Tomb (970-920-5336) to make arrangements for your stay. Work release is often full and you must speak with him about making reservations. A complete packet of release rules and acceptable items are available upon request. Please review the following information.

Items you may want with you when you book in will be limited to the following:

• one week's worth of clean clothes
• an alarm clock or clock radio with alarm
• moderate amounts of reading material
• paperwork or pictures
• a small cassette player
• two electrical appliances, limited to a clock radio, electric razor or small reading lamp

There is a refrigerator, coffee machine and microwave in the WR unit. You may bring food in from the store.

Unacceptable items are:

• extension cords
• VCR
• cardboard boxes
• weapons (i.e. pocket knives, tools>
• over the counter medication
• tobacco products, including lighters and matches
• any alcoholic beverage

Upon your arrival at the jail, you will be required to provide a urine sample as a baseline screen for drugs or alcohol. While in the facility you will be subject to random urine analysis (UA). If, upon your arrival at the jail, you are suspected of being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, you will be asked to take a test to provide physical evidence which may and would be used against you. Upon failure of, or refusal to take the test, your work release privileges will be suspended or terminated depending on the conclusions of a disciplinary hearing or Jail Administration.

Work release candidates are required to provide a letter from their employers. The forms are available at the jail, and shall be returned fully completed following your first day out at your job. Changes in work schedules must be submitted in writing for approval. You will be required to produce a copy of your timesheet/card and you will be held accountable for your time away from the jail. Unaccounted time will constitute a violation of your work release contract, and could result in the remainder of your sentence being served in the confinement of the jail.

Payment for rooms is expected on paydays. The fees are, $15/day for Pitkin County sentenced inmates. For other jurisdictions, the fee is $50/day.
