Boards

City Council Board of Adjustment
MUST be city resident. Review and decide variances to land use regulations including dimensional requirements and permitted uses. To hear and decide appeals from the denial of variance applications by the Planning and Zoning Commission or the Historic Preservation Commission.
Historic Preservation Commission
MUST be city resident. To recognize, protect and promote the retention and use of landmarks and landmark districts in the city and to promote awareness of Aspen's unique heritage. The HPC makes recommendations on historic designations, historic inventory updates, demolition and/or rebuilding on a historically designated site.
Liquor License Authority
MUST be city resident. To grant or refuse licenses, to conduct investigations required by law and to levy penalties against licensees; To promulgate rules and regulations concerning the procedures for hearings before it.
Planning and Zoning
MUST be city resident. Initiate land use code amendments; reviews final development plans for planned unit development and specially planned areas; designation of an H, Historic overlay district; review and approve conditional uses, special review, development in environmentally sensitive areas.
Commercial Core and Lodging Commission (CCLC)
Need NOT be city resident. Makes recommendations on circulation, parking, sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, signing, graphics, alley improvements, malls; recommends methods of funding these programs; develops incentives for participation in these programs and reviews programs that groups may sponsor to promote the commercial core.
Wheeler Opera House Board
Need NOT be city resident. Advises City Council with the planning and management of the daily and long-term operations of the Wheeler Opera House including scheduling policy, priorities and rates for theatre and commercial operations.
Housing Authority Board
MUST be city resident. Makes recommendations on housing guidelines, affordable housing action plans, any affordable housing master plans adopted by the city; reviews specific development proposals initiated by the City or County; assists the city and county to define the need, planning, undertaking, construction, operation or financing of low, moderate and middle income housing; assists the city and county, upon request, to purchase, acquire, obtain, options, hold, lease, sell or otherwise dispose of any real or personal property; and enforces all aspects of the affordable housing program.
Open Space Aquistion Board
MUST be city resident. Review open space elements of comprehensive master and areas plans including the 1999 Aspen Area Community Plan and the City of Aspen Greenfrastructure Plan. Establish relationships with local, regional and trusts to more effectively discharged Board responsibilities. Recommends acquisition of fee interests in real property by expenditures for the Open Space Fund.
