Lighting Standards Summary
Development that requires a lighting plan with the building permit

- Multi-Family Buildings
Content of lighting plan
- Location and height of above grade light fixtures
- Type and luminous intensity of each light source
- Estimates for site illumination in foot-candles
- Other information deemed necessary by the Community Development Director
Single family lighting standards
- Does NOT require lighting plan but must comply with the code
- Outdoor lighting shall be less than 12 ft. in height
- Outdoor lighting with HID light sources shall not exceed 35 watts
- Outdoor lighting with incandescent light sources shall not exceed 50 watts
- All light shall be fully shielded
- Landscape lighting is limited to 35 watts per fixture per 150 square feet of landscaped area
- Security lights and motion sensor lights are restricted to activating only on the owners' property and light trespass (beyond the owners' property) is limited to .1 of foot candle as measured at the property line
- Unshielded flood lights are prohibited
- Lighting directed toward the Roaring Fork River or its tributaries is prohibited
- Lighting sources shall not be affixed to the top of a roof or under a roof eave
