Storm Drain Program
There is an extensive storm drain system beneath the city streets.
The storm drains collect the melting snow and rainwater and remove it from the streets.
The purpose of storm drains is to prevent flooding of the streets.
Throughout the winter the curbs and gutters are cleared to allow the water to reach the
storm drains. Any storm drain which has froze over the winter is opened, as quickly as possible.
It is illegal to dump anything down a storm drain.
The storm drain system was designed only to carry water off of the streets,
anything else is pollution. Anytime anyone pours motor oil, anti-freeze, or
trash into a storm drain, they are polluting our rivers.
