Residential Parking Program
What is a residential parking permit zone?
Residential Parking Permit (RPP) zones are used successfully nationwide to help reduce neighborhood parking overflow from
retail and employment centers.
An RPP zone allows the general public can park for a specified time period, while exempting residents with permits from the
time limit. Aspen maintains a number of RPP zones and limits general parking in these zones to two hours. Residents with
valid permits are exempted from the two-hour limit.
How and where may I get a permit(s)?
Annual permits are available from the Transportation and Parking Department and are renewed each fall.
To qualify for a permit, mail or bring copies of these documents along with a completed application to the Transportation and Parking Department.
- Valid vehicle registration
- Proof of residency (current driver's license, phone or electric bill, lease, etc.)
- Colorado Clean Air certificate if the vehicle is not registered in Pitkin County
- Outstanding parking tickets must be paid before a permit can be issued

How much do permits cost? How do I use them?
Residential parking permits are free for up to two vehicles. The permit is a decal you affix to the inside, lower left of your car's rear window. If the car is sold or transferred, the decal must be removed.
May I have more than one permit?
You may obtain a non-transferable permit for each registered vehicle you own (limit of five permits).
Do I have to participate in this program if I live in an RPP zone?
No. However, you may not park on-street in an RPP zone for more than two hours without a permit, and you will not receive
the benefit of a guest permit.
What about my guests?
You have several options for guest parking. First of all, anyone may park free for up to two hours in an RPP zone.
Guest Pass
Each residence in an RPP zone receives one free guest pass that authorizes parking for more than two hours while the guest
is parked at the host address. The pass is displayed on the guest vehicle's rearview mirror.
Special Events
If you are hosting a special event during restricted parking hours, please contact the Transportation and Parking
Department at 920-5267 to make arrangements.
Where can I park if I live in Aspen's commercial core?
You may obtain a residential parking permit by following the above guidelines, and choosing one of the four RPP zones.
What happens if I lose my guest pass?
Call or stop by the Parking office at 540 East Main. You will need to provide the number of your RPP sticker and a replacement fee will be charged.
Does the residential permit exempt my vehicle from other parking restrictions?
No, all vehicles regardless of permits are subject to a 72-hour limit. Additionally, all vehicles must comply with No
Parking 3am-7am and other posted restrictions.
What about business locations?
Businesses holding a valid City of Aspen business license located in the residential area receive one permit at no charge.
Additional permits maybe purchased at $500 for 6 months.
Are there Residential Parking Options for Non-Residents?
If you are visiting, ask your host for a guest permit (valid only while actually visiting at a permit holder's address and
parking in the immediate vicinity.)
